crafty message photo project {i'm so creative!}

last month boy had a birthday.  we keep birthdays pretty simple round these parts but this year i wanted to do something a little more special than new golf shorts and a greek takeaway.
i wanted to assemble something personal, a one of a kind collection of photos that would say 'this was your birthday 2011'.
i sent out an email to friends and family and asked them to take a photo.  the rules were that some part of them must be in the photo along with a written message to the boy.  a birthday note, an inside joke, write his name in objects, whatever.  creativity was key.  the responses were great!

one of the outtakes from my 'photoshoot'.  i'm a model, yo.

his parents wrote a birthday message in the sand on the beach where they summer, other friends wrote banners with a funny inside joke and others created a photo collage with a post-it note attached and photographed that.
i saved the emails to a memory card and then had them printed at the local photo shop.  collected together in a box they were a nice surprise that boy really liked.  i am thinking it would also make a great gift for an engagement or baby shower.
super easy and super cheap but mostly super fun!  i want my birthday, like, now!

i wanted to show some more examples but decided to respect the parties privacy.  plus, some of the photos are pretty scandalous.  just kidding... or am i?
