apartment, sweet apartment

home tours are one of my favorite types of posts to read.  this is part of my home that i am sharing with you.  i left everything as it was, no cleaning, no set dressing...  just a look into real life.  welcome to the entryway, hallway and kitchen.  welcome to my apartment, sweet apartment.

we are blessed to have an extremely wide hallway {it's actually wider than that kitchen!  true story!}  wide enough that we can fit this beautiful antique bookcase.  it's filled with a rotating collection of thrifty goodness - books, photos and other misc.  the basket acts as a catchall.  {it used to hold boxes of nails in my dad's workshop.}

the photo art was made from an old thrifted frame i painted to match the same clean white as the kitchen walls and a page torn from a thrifted {what else?} book of elvis pictures.  the book was in terrible condition so i didn't mind re purposing this page as art.  i love the huge old camera the girl in the front is holding while all the girls around her are screaming.

the dead space between the fridge and the wall initially frustrated me until i finally filled it with some hooks i salvaged from a retail remodel.  the hooks are used to keep extra shopping bags handy and the canvas bag in front is used for holding items to recycle until they can be taken outside to the recycling bin.

the canister set was completed over three separate thrifting trips.  i pray i found all available in the collection - i hate the idea of an orphan canister out there.

the top of the microwave becomes a surface for this and that.  this being boy's family photos and that being a random pic of mr. johnny cash.  i try to corral it all into one place using my favorite mug from quebec artist hugo didier from his 'not made in china' collection.  i picked it up a few years ago at the toronto 'one of a kind show' where i also bought myself a birthday present from bookhou, the adorable teapot cozy.  i love that the green details match my avocado green thrifting addiction.  above is proudly displayed this year's 'coronation street' calendar.  you can't see it, but the teapot is 'coronation street' as well.

i hope you enjoyed the mini tour.  the house is, as always, a work in progress.  but that is what makes it our home.
